Georgia Rainstorm's: Chapter 6
Amanda
Sitting there on the couch, mom is freaking out. Katie ran out the door saying she was going to get Justin. It’s been almost an hour and neither of them is back.
I look down at my phone, hoping Justin will text me. I look back up at mom. “It’s gonna be okay mom, he can take care of them both.”
Just then my phone vibrates.
Running upstairs I shut my door and open my phone.
At Hospital. Bring me change of clothes. Hurry.
“What have you done…?” I whisper, standing up and grabbing my keys off the desk. Running into Justin’s room, I grab his backpack, his favorite black shirt, his black jeans, and his black Stetson.
“I’m coming Justin…” I whisper to myself, turning back to the doorway and bolting out.
Dashing out the door, I ignore everything. Dad’s truck is right where he left it. He had always told me it was mine when I wanted it.
Starting the truck, I back out and drive towards the hospital. I had refused to drive the truck for far too long. Pulling into the parking lot, I jump out, locking the truck behind me. Running in, I stride over to the desk.
“Katie Simons’ room please?” I state bluntly and walking in the direction the nurse pointed out.
“You can’t go in there!” the nurse calls after me as I walk through the double doors.
Justin is sitting in the hallway on a chair, his head resting in his hands. As I walk up he lifts his head.
“I messed up Amanda…” he whispers as I wrap my arms around him.
“Is she gonna be okay? Why aren’t you in with her? What happened?” I ask, rubbing his back, not caring if I’m getting soaked by his wet shirt.
“They won’t let anyone but her immediate family in… I dunno if she’s okay,” he sniffles. I can feel his entire body shake with his sob.
“Come on. We’re going in.” I say, pulling him behind me and walking into the room.
“Immediate family only.” The nurse says bluntly.
“I’m her sister. He can come in with me.” I say, lying with a worried expression on my face, “Is she gonna be okay?”
“She’s falling hard.” The doctor says, looking down at his clipboard.
“Oh God…” I whisper, turning and wrapping my arms around Justin, “I’m so sorry Justin.”
The doctors leave after awhile, leaving the two of us in silence.
“Why’d you do that Amanda?” he whispers, sitting on the bed beside Katie.
“So you weren’t sitting in the hallway wondering about her, how she was doing and so you can be with her,” I say, resting my hand on his shoulder, “I’m not completely evil just to you Justin. I can be nice sometimes.”
“It’s odd.” He says bluntly.
“You need to be here with her, end of story.” I say, turning back to the door.
“You leaving?”
“I was planning on it, let mom know what’s going on.” I answer, opening the door.
He nods at me, and I leave the room. Standing by the glass window, I watch him change shirts and put on his Stetson. His hair is still plastered to his head from the rain and I turn back as the doctor approaches.
“He can stay with her, I have to go notify my mom,” I tell him, walking back towards the loading bay.
