At the start of the day two heavy sets of doors call out beginning at seven a.m., beckoning to students from freshman to senior year; luring them into the belly of the beast and into responding to the bells, codes and rules within the building’s metal innards. Once inside, the manacles of the oppressed rattle persistently, and strait jackets strain to control the freedoms of individuals. Well-dressed Wardens wait for the denizens of this place, stack after stack of paper waiting to be handed out. Forget the “ball and chain on the ankle” routine and behold the “cement block backpack” routine. This is twenty fold more effective and the plus side is it’s educational!
Another integral part of this routine is the “favorites” who don’t wear these strait jackets, and instead wear practically nothing as they walk the halls, their cleavage and buttocks exposed to the warm spring air. This is an important part of the asylum society as it demonstrates to the lesser people what they have to do in order to become unrestrained by the Wardens.By acting like they do, these “favorites” attempt to convert anyone they come into a twenty foot span with, and continually rile up the lesser inmates.
Following these favorites, we discover the next vital part of their day. FLEX. This thirty two minute break from in-class routines is a wonderful happenstance that exists purely to cause more chaos for lesser inmates, allowing said favorites to go where ever they want and do whatever they want. From carrying hammers that are sharpened on one side to flirting with the Warden for that cellblock, these favorites wreak havoc on the learning process for lesser inmates.
Aside from FLEX, the normal instructional time in this institution is a tangled muck of assigning homework, constantly preparing for standardized tests, and waiting for two or more months for grades to come back for assignments. For favorites in this institution, this practice may not matter, but for lesser inmates this practice can prove to be maddening, even driving the lessers to the point where they very possibly could need solitary confinement.
Studying constantly just to fill in circles on tests that really inform the lessers of how intelligent they actually are, along with six or seven hours of homework that can be due as early as the next day cause grief and insanity in the weaker minded of this group.
So aside from corrupt wardens who only seek to fatten their wallets and neglect the denizens of their iron-barred prison, the day ends, dooming the occupants to constant restraint by this illusion called an institution.
